Abstract
Abstract: Samples of seston, plankton and suprabenthic species were collected in the Seine estuary along the gradient of salinity (0 to > 30 PSU) during six cruises from September 1992 to September 1995. Concentrations of Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn were measured at different levels of the estuarian pelagic trophic web, such as organic detritus, diatoms, Copepods and suprabenthic organisms (mysids, shrimps and fish). Organic detritus, phytoplankton and Copepods showed heavy metal contamination due to biochemical processes along the gradient of salinity. For carnivorous species (shrimps and fish), this contamination may be found only for Zn and Pb. No bio-magnification may be described in the trophic web of the Seine estuary.
